For many people, getting to an appointment can be exhausting. Getting ready, organising transport, finding someone to come with you, finding the right place... and then you're expected to have the energy to actually do the appointment! Home visits take away much of that stress, leaving you with more energy to get the most out of your physiotherapy. It can also be really helpful for your physiotherapist to see you in your own home. They can see how you move and manage everyday activities in your usual environment, rather than only seeing you in a clinic setting. This helps us understand what might be making things difficult and plan therapy that is realistic and relevant to your everyday life.We can look at things like how you manage your stairs, getting in and out of a chair, moving around your home or using your mobility aids, and help you work out safe and practical ways to manage these activities — without relying on all the specialist equipment you might find in a clinic.
No! You can book directly with us without a referral from your GP or another healthcare professional. However, if you have any relevant medical history, recent clinic letters or reports from other healthcare professionals, we’d be grateful if you could share these with us to help inform your assessment and ensure we provide the most appropriate care.If we think you would benefit from speaking to your GP or another healthcare professional, we'll let you know and can recommend what to do next.

You may be sent a short form to complete before your appointment. This can save time during the visit, leaving more time for your assessment, treatment and the things that are important to you.Your physio will arrive at the agreed time. If you'd like some extra reassurance when we're visiting for the first time, we can arrange a password for you to check before letting us in. You are welcome to have a friend or family member with you during the appointment, but please try and avoid large numbers of people. We'll then sit down with you and talk through what's been happening, what you'd like help with and what you'd like to work on. Your physio will then carry out an appropriate physical assessment.Because we're visiting you at home, this might include looking at how you move around your home, asking you to show us an activity you're finding difficult, and carrying out a clinical examination where appropriate. This may involve assessing different parts of your body and, depending on what we need to assess, you may be asked to undress part of your body allow us to examine the area properly. We'll always explain what we need to do first, make sure you're comfortable and maintain your dignity and privacy throughout. You should never feel pressured to do anything you're uncomfortable with, and we can discuss alternative ways of carrying out an assessment where possible.Once we've completed the assessment, we'll talk through what we've found, what your options are and what we recommend. We'll make sure you understand what's happening and have the opportunity to ask questions before deciding what you'd like to do next.
Yes!Sometimes, an assessment and some advice is all you need. Other times, you may benefit from follow-up appointments to keep you on track, work towards your goals and adapt your therapy as you make progress. It's completely up to you. You're not tied into a certain number of appointments, and we'll talk through our recommendations with you so that you can decide what feels right for you.
